Job Description

The Otay River Conservation Program Coordinator is in charge of launching and managing a new Wildcoast program to build a multi-cultural constituency especially among youth in support of efforts to protect and restore the Otay River Regional Park (OVRP) in south San Diego County. Additionally this program will include an innovative environmental education program with underserved children at adjacent schools. This position requires an energetic, out of the box thinker who is an expert at engaging constituents from a diverse, underserved, community to support environmental restoration and education programs. The manager is responsible for all aspects of program management including program development, implementation and evaluation, grant writing, and contract management. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES · Work closely with the Otay Valley Citizen’s Advisory Committee to build community support for and implement environmental education programs. · Provide support to partners to carry out environmental education program with local schools. · Build partnership with Latino, Asian-Pacific Islander and African American community organizations and youth organizations to support river restoration and education programs. · Build partnerships with the private sector to support river restoration programs. · Build partnerships with community health organizations working in south Chula Vista and in communities surrounding the OVRP. · Develop partnerships with other organizations in California carrying out urban river restoration programs that support underserved communities. · Coordinate all aspects of projects including but not limited to scheduling project activities; developing project work plans and budgets; and working with partners to carry out programs. · Organize volunteer involvement in project activities. · Coordinate public outreach and media events for target populations. · Implementation of quality assurance/quality control plan for projects and campaigns. · Implementation of duties as assigned for new or emerging projects. · Administer grants, contracts, agreements, negotiations, fiscal and contractual reports, tracking and data collection. · Develop outreach materials to support the project. · Develop a program logic model and evaluation plan with the assistance of project consultants. · Represent Wildcoast at meetings. · Be a media spokesperson for the project and help to build a media strategy to advance program objectives. · Coordinate with partner organizations working on area environmental education programs.

Required Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
· Three years experience constituency building/program development with a public/community outreach focus and environmental education.
· Minimum Bachelor’s degree in conservation biology, environmental studies, ecology, geography communications, public relations, or other related fields.
· Day, evening and weekend hours required.

Desired Qualifications

DESIRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS · Experience working with a variety of people from diverse, socio-economic backgrounds. · Experience in community and volunteer organizing. · Communication and public speaking including media experience. · Knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook. · Ability to use Apple computers is required. · Strong organizational skills. · Basic understanding of non-profit organization business processes. · Ability to work in a fast-paced, non-profit environment. · Ability to write funding proposals. · Outgoing, energetic and enthusiastic personality.
