TORRANCE, Calif. -- The U.S. Green Building Council conferred LEED Platinum status, three LEED Gold ratings and a LEED Silver designation on American Honda Motor Company properties, including a data center — the first to receive a LEED Silver certification.
Honda detailed its green building ratings for 2008, which brought the company's tally of LEED-certified buildings to seven, the firm said.
Green features at the five facilities certified this year include Energy Star highly reflective roofs, energy efficient light fixtures with motion sensors and dual-paned windows with low-emissivity glass to reduce solar heat gain.
The company also said consideration in choice of materials for the five facilities included U.S. steel that contained at least 25 percent and often as much as 90 percent recycled content; extensive use of recycled and recyclable materials in the building envelope and interior; and suppliers that were selected because of the high level of recycled content of their products and their proximity to the job site.
The locations receiving certification this year were Honda's:
- Northwest Regional Facility in Gresham, Oregon, which was rated LEED Platinum for existing buildings.
- Acura Design Studio at the firm's U.S. research and development center in Torrance, Calif., the Midwestern Consolidation Center in Troy, Ohio, and the Aircraft Company World Headquarters in Greensboro, N.C., all of which received LEED Gold ratings for new construction.
- Data center in Longmont, Colo., which received a LEED Silver rating for new construction.
Fair.
This one's another great move for them after having some great record sales of cars and light trucks in their previous years. Capitalizing with a couple of facilities in efforts to find ways on how tosave fuel.
